Hanif urges PCB to appoint new batting coach

ISLAMABAD: Test cricket legend Hanif Muhammad has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint a new batting coach for the national team, citing poor showing by the batsmen in recent times.
Hanif said “current coach Waqar Younis cannot teach batting to the players” and therefore there is a dire need of appointing a new batting coach.
“The coach should be from Pakistan so he can manage the players well,” he added.
Hanif said in the Asia Cup Twenty20 opener against India, Pakistani batsmen batted poorly and therefore the bowlers were unable to defend such a low total.
“Our bowlers bowled magnificently but were unable to defend such a low total,” he said, adding Pakistan should have in their minds a target of about 130-150 when they bat first.
“It is very unfortunate that our batsmen couldn’t even stand at the crease for 20 overs when they batted first,” he added.
Hanif, who was named as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1968, also said Khurram Manzoor should have been sent in to open instead of Muhammad Hafeez.
“Hafeez is good at one down and should have been sent at this number,” he said.
The batting great believes that Pakistan’s T20 skipper Shahid Afridi is a good captain.
“Afridi is a very good captain and it was bad luck that he got run out against India otherwise he would have scored well,” Hanif said.

Yes Hanif sahab you are 100% right, Waqar younis should step down as head Coach and become a balling coach if needed and there should be a batting coach full of experience and good records as a Head coach because we lack in batting only since so many years and balling is always good.

Hanif Muhammad is correct. But I think as a change Afridi should open with sharjeel khan because his fall out in late order has no impact on opponent. If his flock works and Pak gets a good opening stand then opponent could feel the pressure and make mistakes. Also, it will safe one top order batsman from playing wrong shot on a brand new shinny ball. May be they'l play better with 5-10 overs older soft ball.

Is the 3rd class Afridi,Akmal and others-talentless who cannot be taught anything.Shahzad is out but for some reason no one gets rid of trash like Afridi and Akmal.

Pakistan Cricket Board must get the best coaches for bowling, batting and of course the Chief coach. They should try to get the coaches of Pakistan origin. In case they are not available (due to personal politics) then they should go for the best foreign coach who is available.

With due respect to legendary Hanif Sahab. I want to reiterate again and again that Pakistan Team just need a psychiatrist who could work on their fear of playing good cricket in crucial times else they all know how to play Cricket. The teams of qualified coaches or any batting/bowling/fielding consultancy could give them some useful tips and some strategy plans but in the field and on spot it is the player who needs to perform by controlling his mind and showcasing his abilities.

I think fundamental issue is mental strength...international level players does not need technical coaching..that they already hence they are part of top 15 of the country...wat they need is mental strength and mentoring to build up the inning...hence they need like Gary Kristen or miandad...

Hanif was a great batsman, indeed, one of the very best that Pakistan has ever produced. I have watched him play since his school days for Sindh Madrassah and have been continually impressed not only by his God-given talent but also what he made of it through hard work and practice. However, that did not make him a good captain or a good judge of others. He was always much too polite and differential. You can see the same in his judgments of Shahid Afridi.

They can appoint anyone as coach. If the players lack common sense then nothing much will happen. They really should try to pull him a coach with a good brain for tactics. Someone like Dean Jones comes to mind. The rest of the tour party should be shown the door. No point in carrying all the bowling coaches they have.

It is time that the whole structure needs to be Re-wamped. Remove the entire Set up starting with Najam Sethi, old man Sheharyar Khan, Waqar Younus and Afridi.
And this should be done within 24 hrs.
Regarding Hanif Mohammad, he is a nice guy.

I agree we have mental as well as technical issues. Maybe sane head Misbah could return from retirement and if Afridi does not open should retire inmediately . If his reflexes cannot handle pace and new ball, unfortunately he will be a liability than an asset . Personally I feel his glory days are over

Now what he did against Bangladesh ? now you can say "He got catch out against Bangladesh otherwise he would have scored 50 Runs "

How correctly the batting legend Hanif said(first subcontinental batsman to post 300 plus score) Now that the air in the Boom Boom balloon is gone with a duck and exit from Asia Cup, now is the time to say good bye to our head(less) coach . If someone is saying to me that we have a lot of talent than u must be joking. Only playing shots hitting sixes and fours is not the game n what I have seen in the past few years that the person who hit the ball long will be immediately selected in the squad no body is looking at the technique of the batsman big examples in recent past are the inclusion of Mukhtar,Awais Zia n Sharjeel the person who can hit the balls long has been selected but the players like Khalid Latif,Haris Sohail, Shahid yousuf,Fawad Alam n Asad Shafiq has been ignored because they will play the proper cricketing shots the day our board will start selecting the players specially batsman on technique basis all the problem will resolve automatically n in few months time the same player will score runs for u in any format or game

@philosopher from Japan I fully agree with him this is the same opinion expressed by Sri Lankan cricket lovers that Afridi should open batting in T 20 World Cup to see the difference. His stay at the wicket for 5 overs is enough to produce the result.
