LARKANA: Speakers paid rich tributes to prominent Sindhi poet and prose writer Maqsood Gul on his first death anniversary held here on Sunday.
The gathering was organised by the Maqsood Gul Academy in collaboration with Literature Department of Arts Council Larkana and was presided over by former secretary of Sindhi Adabi Sangat and prominent Sindhi poet, Dr Adal Soomro.
Dr Soomro said that Gul was a mature and sensitive poet who painted inner feelings of love, longing, deprivation and inspiration. His strong theme that recurred throughout his poetry like that of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai was the feeling of separation from the beloved which provided him inner strength to persevere in the struggle for reuniting with his darling, he said.
Sarwar Saif said that Gul, besides being a good poet, was a thorough gentleman who always cared not only his family but also friends and other people around him. Gul always preached and practised love, he said.
Qazi Khizar Hayat, Gul’s brother and himself a prominent writer and poet, said that though a year had passed since Gul left them but they always felt he was present among them.
He was an unforgettable soul as he lived his entire life for the cause of love, peace and wellbeing of humanity.
Dr Bashir Ahmad Shaad, president of Qazi Maqsood Gul Academy said that Gul was a dedicated writer. He wrote throughout his life, 10 of books had been published and the remaining were unpublished which would soon be published, he said.
Prof Mukhiar Samoo, writer and founder of Knowledge Centre having six books especially poetry for children to his credit, said that Gul was a poet of inspiration and life.
He always infused life in Sindhi mushairas through his vigorous presentation of poetry. Through his poetry, he had given a message to live life to the fullest with zest and enthusiasm even in the face of difficulties, he said.
Yasir Qazi, Gul’s son who is also a poet, broadcaster, TV anchorperson and secretary of the academy named after of his illustrious father, said that his father devoted his life entire life to enriching literature. The academy would do its best to bring out all his literary works, he added.
Sapna Gul Qazi, Gul’s daughter, said the affection and love of baba would always be a guiding force and inspiration for the progeny. Literary works of her father would continue to inspire society for decades to come, she added.
On this occasion, the last published book of poetry by Maqsood Gul Akhyoon Neel Kanwal was also launched posthumously. The book launch was performed by Larkana Commissioner Akbar Leghari, Dr Adal Soomro, Sarwar Saif, Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaad, Qazi Khizar Hayat, Prof Mukhtiar Samoo, Yasir Qazi and Rizwan Gul.
