Plagiarism

This is regarding the poem “Slimy things” by Hadia (YW, February 6, 2015). This poem is in our school course’s poetry book and Ms Hadia has copied it. As the by-line to the poem is anonymous, so Ms Hadia must have used this fact to her advantage.

Plagiarism is a crime and whoever is doing it is not only bringing shame to themselves but to their parents as well. It is always best to write something yourself, no matter how many errors you make, at least it is original work. Ms Hadia should write her own poems in the future instead of copy-pasting others’ work.

Garbage dumps

It is regrettable that foul odour, garbage dumps, shattered glass and leaking sewage have occupied the entrance to one of the most famous girls’ schools of Karachi on MA Jinnah Road. But what annoys the staff, the parents and the students more is the fact that the school walls are being used as public toilets.

Most of the places in Karachi do have at least one or more of these problems, however, it is very upsetting to see that people give no attention or respect to these buildings or places and carelessly dump waste.

I would request the concerned authorities to look into the poor conditions around the school and also other historical buildings in the city and take measures to improve the conditions.

Do students need mobile phones?

This is with reference to the article “Do students need mobile phones?” by Muhammad Yawar Shirazi (YW, November 28, 2015).

Mobile phone, a source of communication, helps everyone to stay connected. The mobile phone has both advantages as well as disadvantages and it depends upon a person how he utilises this facility.

In today’s modern times, cellphones should be given to students, particularly, to those who are in college because they are grownups and know quite well the uses of this gadget. But parents should always keep an eye on the activities of their kids and guide them about the pros and cons of technology.

Are we slaves to the digital world?

This is regarding the cover article “Are we slaves to the digital world?” by Syeda Mahnoor Raza (YW, January 16, 2016).

I agree with the writer that these days people just can’t live without their smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc. They are always glued to the screens of these gadgets and keep wasting their time. This is really bad for their health and also affects them mentally.

Social media usage should be limited and there should be more face-to-face interaction with family and friends.
