a KARACHI, Nov 7: Leader of the Opposition In the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmad Khuhro has alleged that the government was bent upon pursuing undemocratic means to resolve political issues and as such, he was pessimistic about its success in addressing people’s grievances.

Mr Khuhro, Sindh chief of the PPP, was talking to newsmen at the entrance of the assembly building where the opposition was staging a protest demonstration after Friday’s session.

Referring to the ‘false cases’ being instituted against elected representatives, he said that the way the present ‘unconstitutional’ government was violating the Constitution, was quite detrimental to democracy and masses.

“Concocted cases have been instituted against Asif Ali Zardari and this is a proof of the government’s utter failure.” he claimed, and pointed out that out of 14, Mr Zardari was acquitted in nine such cases. In other cases also, he added, prosecution had failed to prove the charges. Describing the arrest of ARD President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi as ‘undemocratic’, Mr Khuhro said the move was a manifestation of the government’s desperation was frustration. He said Mr Hashmi was being punished for exposing the government’s weaknesses and revealing the truth before the nation.

In reply to a question, the opposition leader said that the opposition could not be blackmailed by the government and that it would continue its struggle from the ARD platform till the removal of the government.

Mr Khuhro deplored that the rulers wanted to suppress the opposition by sending its leaders behind the bars. He vowed to continue the mission of late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan till its accomplishment.

Zain Ansari, General Secretary of the ARD Sindh, recalled that the members of the Sindh Assembly had also condemned registration of false cases against Makhdoom Hashmi. He said Makhdoom Hashmi’s arrest undermined the privilege of parliament as was maintained by the leader of the opposition Mr Khuhro.

Mr Ansari termed registration of cases against Mr Khuhro ‘victimization’. He demanding immediate release of Makhdoom Hashmi and Asif Zardari and said that Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif must be allowed to return home. He said that implicating political leaders in false cases was a conspiracy against the parliament and democracy.

Mr Ansari, flanked by Sardar Rahim and Saleem Zia, said that return of popular leaders to the homeland was vital to run the country’s affairs smoothly.
