KARACHI: Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali faced an awkward situation at the Karachi Airport on Thursday when he was not allowed to board a flight for being late, DawnNews reported.
The state minister arrived late for flight PA-204 to Lahore when doors of the aircraft had already been closed.
DawnNews reported that Ali was stuck in a protest by Pakistan International Airlines employees outside the airport. The protesters chanted anti-government slogans and reportedly blocked the state minister's way.
In September 2014, Senator Rehman Malik and another lawmaker were expelled from a plane by passengers for arriving two hours late for the flight.
Passengers of an Islamabad-bound PIA flight from Karachi had barred Malik and PML-N Member of National Assembly Dr Ramesh Kumar Wakwani from boarding the aircraft. The two were accused of holding the plane back while other passengers waited for hours.

He is one of the worst ministers at the federal level. His only qualification to be a federal minister is that he is the Relative of Nawaz Family. Best example that how nepotism destroy the countries. Also it is my request to Dawn news that kindly cover the news where Mr Abid Sher Ali used Private helicopters to go to Hyderabad from Karachi. That too from government expenses. He has one private helicopter under his use and Government of Pakistan is paying all expenses for these joy rides.

No one shall be above the laws in Pakistan. PML-N and PPP are always breaking laws, if ordinary any civilians break same they laws, they are harrased and legal action taken against them. Revoked VIP privilege from Pakistan.

None of the commentators noticed that he was not allowed to board and he didn't try either. Based upon this news, he got stuck in the protest by PIA employees, which implies that he wasn't late as such.
I am not advocating Mr Abid, but at least proved better then the M/s Malik and Wakwani.
The comments here speaks volume about why we as a nation are in trouble.

It is interesting that our rebellion against VIP culture starts and ends within that culture. Aeroplanes are not the people's mode of transport. How about trying this next time you're stopped on the road for a uniformed public servant?

Rules are rules. If one arrives after the plane's doors are closed then he/she should not be allowed to board the plane no matter who they are. If other passengers can come on time then these VIPs should also.

@Alien Everyone in Pakistan thinks they are above the law , from generals, citizens and politicians. Thank goodness people are starting to learn about equal rights. Pakistan is becoming unique in the Muslim world. Imagine a minister having to wait in some Arab type country. I wonder if the rioting PIA workers who feel thay have a right to loot the airlines and country had a hand in this?

PIA is in loss and Steel mill is closed whereas Sharif's Steel Mill is flourishing and his minister's airline is in profit. What a cruel joke with the people of Pakistan.
During the time of Musharraf both organizations were in profit.

He was unfortunate not to enjoy the privilege of being late and keep the flight waiting since he was in KARACHI the city of rebels in this country. Had he been in takht Lahore situation would have been otherwise.

@Zubaida khan thank you for enlighten us about the notion of democracy but I guess you didn't read the article well. FYI it's shows that he missed the plane due to protest in Karachi and not because of flourishing democratic norms. A number of examples of such 'late comers' ministers are available in existing govt as well as preceding govt like Anushe Rehman's , rehman malik's etc. secondly, you might hear the news that cm shahbaz is going to select 'elected' mayor of capital. Did you hear that?? Please make a habit of reading dawn for latest updates.
