LAHORE: Actress-turned-politician Kanwal suffered brain haemorrhage at her residence on Monday and she was rushed to the Jinnah Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital told Dawn there was a slight improvement in her condition; however, next 48 hours are critical. She has been put on ventilator in the intensive care unit (ICU).

A medical board, consisting of six members, has been formed by the Punjab government for her treatment.

Kanwal joined showbiz in 1987 and she first got a breakthrough in commercial stage plays. She started her career from Alhamra and later on got offers from TV. She acted in all major visual mediums such as film and TV. Among her prominent plays there are Red Card, Piyas and Khoji.

Kanwal joined politics in 2008 and became a PML-N MPA on a reserved seat in 2013. She had also been looking after the Artistes Welfare Fund and was active in helping ailing artistes when it came to their treatment.
