QUETTA: Two minor boys died when the roof of their mud-walled house collapsed in Quetta's Kasi Qabristan area Friday morning as northern parts of Balochistan saw heavy rainfall Thursday night.

The boys, Muhammad Hashim and Muhammad Javed, aged between 8 to 10 years, were asleep when the roof of their mud-walled house collapsed, police said.

"I lost two sons," Shamsullah, father of the ill-fated boys told Dawn.com. By profession, Shamsullah is a cobbler, who looks after a family of fourteen.

"We spent a sleepless night because of the rain. The kids had just gone to sleep when the tragedy struck", Shamsullah said.

Quetta and most parts of northern Balochistan received heavy rainfall through Thursday night into Friday morning. Continuous rainfall damaged dozens of mud-walled houses in the capital and adjoining areas.

According to district officials, rainfall has also damaged some houses in Sheikh Manda area of Quetta but no loss of life has been reported.
