QUETTA: Balochistan’s business leaders, transporters, traders, mine owners, and other stakeholders have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, burning of goods-carrying trucks, and difficulties in trade and transportation, and have decided to form a joint committee to take up these issues at the highest level.

A consultative meeting was held, presided over by Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) President Haji Muhammad Ayub Mariani. The meeting was largely attended by representatives of various associations and unions, who unanimously decided to form a joint committee comprising all stakeholders to address the issues and engage with the government.

The meeting warned that if immediate measures are not taken to compensate losses and ensure protection, they may be forced to launch protests.

Mariani, while speaking at the meeting, said he had already taken up the matter with the prime minister, highlighting road blockades and the burning of transport vehicles in Balochistan. He said the prime minister had assured that a high-powered delegation would be sent to resolve the issues.

He added that initial efforts would focus on reopening highways; however, if the situation does not improve, a future course of action would be decided collectively. “This issue concerns the entire province; therefore, all stakeholders will be given representation in the committee,” he said, adding that the QCCI would extend full support.
