SC diqualifies PML-N MNA for concealing assets

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday disqualified Member of the National Assembly Justice (Retd) Iftikhar Ahmad Cheema for concealing his assets .

Mr. Cheema was elected as a member of the lower house of parliament in the May 2013 General Elections on a Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) ticket from Punjab's Gujranwala-VII NA-101 constituency.

The apex court also directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the schedule for re-polling in the constituency.

Earlier, his opponent Ahmed Chattha – who was contesting elections against Cheema on PML-Junejo ticket, accused the PML-N lawmaker of hiding the details of his assets in the nomination forms which were submitted to contest the General Elections May 2013.

Ahmed Chattha is the younger son of Hamid Nasir Chattha.

Not many MNAs and MPAs would remain seated if SC investigated everyone. And if Articles 62 etc were applied to them, even less will survive.

It should be made mandatory that any contestant elected on the premise of false statements will also be liable for the cost of re-election of the constituency in question besides losing their constituency seat. Re election cost are huge and should not be at the public expense!

@Multinational Bhabi thank you for informing us. I hope they pay income taxes on the basis of their declaration of assets. Do they?? Please enlighten us the calculation of Rs. 425/- income tax pm had managed to pay in preceding years.
