KARACHI, Nov 5: A young boy who was wounded by a low-intensity grenade which went off inside a house in Kashmir Colony, Mahmoodbad, on Sunday, died during treatment at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) here on Wednesday.

Edhi sources said that four-year-old Rab Nawaz, who was admitted to the burns ward of the NICH following the incident, succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday evening.

Ten people of a family, including four women and five children, were wounded in the blast.

According to reports the explosion occurred when a box of sweets was opened in the house; a fire erupted engulfing the entire house.

The police, however, believe that the grenade was hurled from outside the house; it landed on the asbestos roof and exploded with a bang. The roof collapsed and the fire overtook the house.

Those who were injured in the explosion were Ghulam Rasool (head of the family), Kulsoom, Ameera Bibi, Fayyaz Bibi, Khurshid Mumtaz, and five children—11-month old Naveed Mumtaz, Shahnawaz, 5, Nasreen, 11, Rubina, 6 and Rab Nawaz, 4.

Arrangements were being made by the Edhi Foundation to send the body to Punjab for burial.
