Cylinder blast inside van kills 12 passengers, six injured

KARAK: At least 12 passengers including four women were killed and six others injured when a gas cylinder explosion occurred inside a van on Indus Highway in Karak district on Sunday, DawnNews reported.
According to details shared by Karak DPO Muhammad Javed Khan, the passenger van heading towards Dera Ismail Khan from Peshawar suddenly caught fire after a huge cylinder blast on highway near Kanda Khurram area.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospital where they are being treated.
Initial details reveal that the van was carrying members of the same family who were going to attend a wedding.
The van caught fire following the explosion in gas cylinder due to which the passengers suffered massive burn injuries, which resulted in the death of some.
The road was blocked for all kinds of traffic due to incident for two hours.
Police personnel and rescue teams immediately reached the site of the incident. Rescue officials said that women and children were also among the dead.
Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
In recent days, the country has witnessed a sharp rise in the number of such deadly accidents.

RIP. May their souls rest in peace. No. of deaths owing to the cylinder blasts has sharply risen in recent years. The major reason behind is the lack of the maintenance of van cylinders. Poor quality cylinders are used in vans with most of them being never checked once fitted into the van. Govt. should put a complete ban on CNG use in all types of vehicles because of these accidents and shortage of gas.

Very unfortunate accident. May the souls of dead rest in peace, their families get courage to endure the loss and injured get speedy recovery.
Karak is known for its natural gas deposits and free supply to the area. There is no doubt that, running public transport on un-protected and free gas filled without safety considerations in greed was responsible for this accident.

The Government should impose ban on the gas cylinders in passengers coaches because every coach is fitted with 4 large size cylinders(1 each under a row of seats) filled to the capacity and that is why it results into deaths of all most all passengers as all the cylinders explode simultaneously.

No rules and no traffic regulations. Despite the amendments, the law has still not been implemented. Provincial governments are all the time trying to find ways to beat the traffic laws instead of implementing it. No safety checks and balance. The Number of vehicles without fitness certificates are all time high. The roads are in the worst condition. Pay a bribe and get vehicle fitness certificate or even a driving license. no problem. Nobody is taking responsibility to solve these issues.
Neither the present road based transportaion system has sufficient expansion capacity nor is capable of meeting the present and projected traffic demand. The number of fatal accidents and traffic violations are order of the day. Ministry of transportation is not doing anything to enforce the traffic laws seriously. Frankly speaking there's only one rule and that is "no rules".

This use of cylinders in vehicle should be stopped. Here in Canada a propane cylinder used for barbeque has an inspection date engraved on them. After that expiry date it is replaced at the propane station with new cylinder. Pakistan should learn from the world.

Arrest and punish those who passed this vehicle. Then arrest and punish the owner and Driver. Finally ban CNG for all types of vehicles or fix gas cylinders on all PM vehicles. No Petrol or Diesel should be permitted on his vehicles. Only gas.

here in the west, you can't take the vehicle out on the road if its not safe to operate. Every year the vehicle has to pass certain safety tests, including an emission test before the license plate can be renewed.
Its just mind boggling how these unsafe vehicles keep operating on the roads in Pakistan

The issue is CNG kits fitted to most vehicles in Pakistan . These kits I have noticed personally are not installed according to international standards and are prone to accidents , moreover people are using cylinders as a replacement which is not installed properly . If Pakistanis are that much after CNG vehicles than the government should start importing LPG fitted vehicles. As a kit fitted by incompetent mechanics is always prone to accidents . Suggestions can be yearly must inspection , MANTENNANCE OF TRANSPORT OR MOT for every vehicle older than three years yearly. Road tax and a must have insurance . A certified car mechanic system . To avoid loss of valuable lives .
