LAHORE, Nov 2: Police killed an alleged proclaimed offender in an ‘encounter’ in the Batapur area on Sunday night.

A police party raided the house of Shafqat Butt in Basin village on a tip-off that PO Malik Matloob, alias Pappu Butt, was present there.

The inmates of the house allegedly opened fire which the police party retaliated. They escaped after half an hour’s exchange of fire, leaving behind Matloob, who was seriously injured.

The police claimed the injured PO died on way to hospital.

Sources said that DSP Umar Virk and Sub-Inspector Bashir Niazi, who were heading the police party, have been notorious for killing people in staged encounters.

The police claimed the alleged PO was wanted in more than 12 cases of crime against property, including a murder in Ichhra and critically injuring a policeman in Mozang some weeks ago.

The Lahore District Police Officer has announced cash prize and appreciation letters for the police team.

INJURED: A brother of a union council Nazim was injured in a clash between two political groups in Wahdat Colony area on Sunday.

The police said PML-Q councillor Mian Maqsood had hosted an Iftar-dinner for party men. He had also invited Chief minister’s adviser and former MPA Akhtar Rasool and his men.

The former MPA’s men reportedly parked their vehicles in front of the real estate office of union council Nazim Javed Iqbal, an opponent of Maqsood and a brother of PPP’s Zahid Javed. The Nazim’s men objected to the parking of vehicles which led to the clash. The adviser’s men allegedly opened fire, injuring Zahid Javed.

The condition of Zahid was stated to be critical at hospital.
