ISLAMABAD: As many as 48 qualifying matches were decided on the opening day of the Serena Hotels Open Tennis Championships here at the PTF Tennis Complex on Sunday.

Most of the top-ranked players including Aqeel Khan, Shahzad Khan, Mohammad Abdi, Yasir Khan, Heera Ashiq, Usman Rafiq, Mohammad Mudassar and Ahmed Chaudry are participating in the event.

According to PTF secretary Khalid Rehmani, there were 64 participants in the men’s singles qualifying draw of whom Abbas Khan, Zaid Mujahid, Arham Atti­que, Saeed-ul-Haq, Faizan Khur­ram, Raja Shahid, Haris Irfan-ul-Haq; Barkatullah qualified for the main draw by winning two matches in the qualifying event.

In the Junior U-18 singles qualifying rounds, Syed Mohammad Ahmed, Bilal Kabir, Amir Naseem, Zain Rohail, Mujahid Zeb, Arsam Shahzad, Hamidullah and Zohaib Khan qualified for the main draw.
