India thrash Pakistan for Junior Asia Cup title

KARACHI: Harmanpreet Singh slammed four goals, all off penalty corners, as India bulldozed three-time former champions Pakistan 6-2 in the one-sided final to regain the juniors Asia Cup in the Malaysian city of Kuantan on Sunday. The winners led 3-1 at half time.
Harmanpreet’s three goals came in the first half in 10th, 15th and 30th minutes while he added the fourth in 53rd minute. Amaan Qureshi and Manpreet scored once in 44th and 50th minutes to pour salt on Pakistan’s wounds.
Pakistan managed to score twice, once in each half, through Mohammad Yaqoob off penalty corner in 28th minute and Mohammad Dilber in the 68th minute.
Harmanpreet hits four in 6-2 win
The triumph helped India equal Pakistan’s feat by winning the title for an overall third time since inception with the previous two being in 2004 and 2008.
Earlier, South Korea whipped Japan 2-1 to seize third position in the eight-nation contest.
In the other classification matches, host and defending champions Malaysia thrashed Bangladesh 8-0 to finish fifth while China grabbed seventh position by getting the better of Oman 7-2.
Final positions: 1-India, 2-Pakistan, 3-South Korea, 4-Japan, 5-Malaysia, 6-Bangladesh, 7-China, 8-Oman.

Two months back Pak junior team lost to Ind 1-6. So Pak can rejoice as it is 2-6 now, thereby improving its status.

Great to see India win but we need to be gracious. Acknowledge the fact that we had a worthy opponent whom we overcame.
We may not subscribe to certain policies of PAK but that does not mean we become uncivilised in our response and celebration

We in Pakistan need qualified professionals to handle all sports as well, just like other trades in life. I wonder who thinks that ex-players can manage the sports better. They can be good coach if they get professional coaching training, but expecting them to manage at the top level is a wrong strategy.

Good to see thrashing comments, as I haven hardly seen any wining comments on way to final. Pakistan Played well, however Goal keeper in first half was the main. Pakistan can reach Top level both at junior and Seinor level. The only thing is merit and 2 to 3 stars, which can only come by merit.

Since seniors are virtually out of major tournaments the juniors can provide hope for the future. Not a good sign for Pak hockey. Forget defeat from Indian team which is well groomed by a dedicated coach Harendra Singh, if something substantial is not done for this game in Pakistan this could well be a history. I personally feel something has terribly gone wrong with Pak hockey over past 5 years, maybe fellow Pak hockey lovers can tell what is wrong?

@Dhanku Malayasia was a neutral venue that's why. Those kinds of things happen in presence of a stimulant, heat of the moment. indian crowd provided that in abundance. The recent example was in a Cricket match India against RSA in India.

That has never changed the outcome of the sports played between Pak and India. Despite our smaller population, Pakistan has bested India in Cricket and Hockey both on more major occasions than the other side.
