LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought a reply from the Punjab government on a petition of a Chinese company challenging confiscation of donkey hides from its tannery in Kasur.

The company ‘Globin’ through its representative Mr Hu Longbin pleaded that the local police on Sept 6, 2015 raided their tannery at Deengarh (Kasur) and seized 1,015 hides of donkeys and also registered a case against workers.

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the Chinese company had been in trading of animal hides for at least 20 years. He said the animal hides were perishable item which could not be preserved for long. He said the illegal action of the police caused the company a loss of Rs40 million. He said the company had nothing to do with the meat of donkeys.

The counsel asked the court to allow the company’s representative to get the confiscated hides on “superdari”.

Justice Erum Sajjad Gull heard initial arguments and issued notice to the government and also summoned a notification of ban on export of donkey hides. The judge would resume hearing on Nov 16.
