ISLAMABAD: The establishment division issued on Wednesday a notification about the appointment of senior journalist Absar Alam as chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority.

However, the new chairman will take charge of his assignment next month. The electronic media regulator has been without a regular chairman since Dec 2013 when Chaudhry Rasheed was removed from the post by the government.

The acting charge of the office was given to Pervaiz Rathore, member Pemra.

After his retirement in May 2015, the acting charge was given to Kamaluddin Teepu, executive member of Pemra.

Mr Teepu will continue to be the executive member of the authority.

An official of the information ministry told Dawn that Mr Alam had said that he would take charge of the office from Dec 1 because of personal engagements.
