KOHAT: The number of dengue patients in Kohat district has risen to 183.

Medical superintendent of KDA divisional headquarter hospital, Dr Naseem Jan, told Dawn on Sunday that the virus, which was present 45 days ago in only Lachi tehsil 23 kilometers from Kohat city, had now entered the city.

He said that a total of 15 new patients had been reported from different areas.

He said that two patients were detected positive from city areas namely Basheer Mohammad of Tanda Dam and Mohammad Khalid of Mohallah Pir Abdullah Shah, while Shad Mir from Jatta Ismailkhel, Karak, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday.

He said that earlier two separate wards had been allocated for dengue patients in the KDA hospital with 15 beds each, and now extra beds had been arranged on emergency basis.

He feared that more cases were expected to be reported from Lachi, Karak and the city as the dengue virus had spread despite precautionary measures to contain it in Lachi tehsil.

Dr Jan claimed that teams had been constituted to ascertain the presence of larva in the affected city areas.

ARRESTED: Police seized weapons and arrested an alleged outlaw in a raid on a house in KDA Town here on Sunday.

He is said to be allegedly involved in cases of murder and attack on police.

The police said that they seized one each small machinegun, Kalakov, repeater and pistol along with a number of cartridges from the house, which were to be sold to potential buyers.

The police nabbed the alleged outlaw, identified as Syed Umer Hussain of Junglekhel, and seized the weapons from the basement of a house in Sector-4 of KDA after resistance.

A case has been registered against the accused in the KDA police station.
