RAWALPINDI: A four-day art exhibition featuring 36 amateur artists opened at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Wednesday.

MPA Lubna Rehan Pirzada inaugurated the exhibition, which was attended by RAC resident director Waqar Ahmed and a number of art enthusiasts.

As many as 260 art pieces were displayed, including paintings, sketches and calligraphy. The artists used pencil work, watercolours, oil paints, mixed media, pastels and charcoal on canvas and on paper.

Mr Ahmed told Dawn that the exhibition aimed to provide young talent with a platform to express themselves and showcase their work.

He said that fine art classes were regularly held at the arts council, supervised by senior artists and recipients of the Pride of Performance award and the Sitara-i-Imtiaz.

Ms Rehan commended the work of the artists and credited the RAC for training and providing the artists with a platform. She said the work of the young artists was simple and attractive.

Naheed Manzoor and Mr Ahmed also spoke at the event. The exhibition will be up until Saturday.

The artists include Wahaj Ahmed, Fouzia Sohail, Sarah Khalid, Arisha Ali, Sonia Hafeez, Nazish Bahadur, Numra Iqbal, Mahnoor Qamar, Mariyam Mushtaq, Rahat Zarab, Amna, Aqsa Nageen, Rija Kanwal, Maham Fiaz, Asad Jadon, Iqra Nawaz, Laraib Mumtaz, Kazmin Abbas, Amber Ikhlaq, Sadaf Batool, Azhar Mahmood, Razia Sultan, Muniba Shoib, Farukh Jamil, Nouman Nawaz, Salma, Aruj Sheikh, Saadam, Samila Basharat, Muqadas, Shazia Akbar, Samina Razaq, Nida Habib, Serish Javed, Nili Khan, Sana Asghar and Sofia Hameed.
