KARACHI: Women’s boxing gets official patronage when the weeklong inaugural Sindh Sports Board (SSB) coaching camp begins at two venues in the city from Wednesday.

“The SSB has doled out Rs150,000 for the women’s boxing camp which will be spent on purchase of equipments for the trainees, refreshments, travelling allowance and kits,” Sindh Boxing Association secretary Asghar Baloch said on Tuesday.

He said 41 women — 17 at Lyari and 24 at district Central — have been enrolled for the camp so far.

Mohammad Younus Qambrani will impart training to the women pugilists at Pak Shaheen Club Lyari while Naeem-ur-Rehman will supervise the camp at North Karachi Gymkhana, Nagan Chowrangi.

To a question he said women pugilists have performed in exhibition bouts in the city twice during ‘I Am Karachi’ sports festival and All Sindh Anti Narcotics Force boxing event.

The camp concludes on Nov 4.
