RIYADH: Saudi Arabia executed a convicted Pakistani heroin smuggler on Tuesday, bringing the number of people put to death in the kingdom this year to 138.
Nimat Allah Mola Baksh had been found guilty of smuggling the drugs inside his body, the interior ministry said in a statement.
He was put to death in the kingdom's east.
Most Saudi executions are carried out by beheading with a sword, in what the ministry says is a deterrent.
Rights experts have raised concerns about the fairness of the trials.
They also say the death penalty should not be applied in drug cases.
According to AFP tallies, Baksh was the 138th Saudi or foreigner put to death by the kingdom this year, compared with 87 in 2014.
London-based Amnesty International says Saudi Arabia had the world's third-highest number of executions last year, far behind China and Iran, and ahead of Iraq and the United States.
Under the kingdom's strict Islamic legal code, murder, drug trafficking, armed robbery, rape and apostasy are all punishable by death.
Saudi court proceedings “fall far short” of global norms of fairness, according to the rights watchdog.
Saudi Arabia has carried out around 80 executions annually since 2011. In comparison, Iran has executed more than 1,000 people since January last year, the UN special rapporteur on Iran, Ahmed Shaheed said in March.

The government of Pakistan must take serious actions to curb such elements who cause bad image of Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia. This is one of the reasons Gulf people in general and Saudis in particular do not respect Pakistani. Majority of these people come from villages where they have no information about other countries and due to their 'innocence' the greed of making money they end up with such incidents.

Barbaric. When this is the legal way to punish, is it too surprising the ways of isis? Most of the time it is some Pakistani who loses his head. They never get the fair trial. Some of these are Saudis settling scores with their business partners. Disgusting, the justice system in the middle east, more disgusting is the silence of the western nations.

Our Saudi friends are very efficient at finding a needle in a haystick and drugs hidden in any number of ingenious ways. They are completely inefficient for some odd reason when it comes to finding arms and bombs and pistols and machine guns that are used to murder people at prayer. How they cannot see trucks full of arms and people armed to the teeth entering mosques but are able to spot a drug traffiker at a mile away is truly incredible.

Saudi's seem to be biggest hypocrites in the world. I do not think their prince who was caught by Lebanese Police of trying to smuggle 4 tons of drugs into KSA will get even a slap on the wrist. Those drugs, it is heard, are used to fuel Syrian war. Hence it may have state blessing, therefore no punishment, but rewards from KSA.

We would like to know more about the person than just drugs found in the body of a Pakistani. We would like to know what he did in Saudi Arabia as a profession? A Saudi prince and four other Saudis have just been caught at the Beirut airport in the biggest drug bust ever carried by the Lebanese authorities. It shows that the Saudis are involved in drug smuggling and instead of going after these Saudis the government executes poor carriers who don`t even know what they are carrying.

Pakistan anti narcotics staff shall be equally held responsible for their inefficiency in letting the individuals pass through their system. Similarly Saudi authorities shall home on to the gang of drug barons through the drug traffickers, in order to eliminate their network and punishment awarded to them as well.

A Saudi prince was just arrested in Lebanon for trying to smuggle 2 tons of meth into Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese have legalized all drugs and treat abuse of drugs as a social problem. Crime in general and violent crime has dropped. They found that use of drugs also dropped as people were educated.

Pakistan Government must control people going abroad. Bad people with no educational background and who desire to go abroad to make money for the benefit of their families should be thoroughly screened.The Government should also advertise the end results of the actions of certain bad,illiterate pakistanis abroad especially in the countries of the middle east so that this kind of advertisement serves as a deterrent for these people.Also strict action should be taken against those who use these abroad going people to carry drugs.They play with their lives and the punishment for illegal actions far exceeds the money they make as servants,lowly laborers while working in these countries.Most of those executed in this callous way are Pakistanis.In the end families are left with no body to help them and these families resort to crime and other illegal activities and the Government is helpless in controlling these criminals.

I spent 22 years in Saudi Arabia and interact many local people during this period. I have witness of fair judgement from police during any dispute arise between local and expatriate.I also accept, that normally Saudis are roughly discriminate the other nationals special Asian.

what you don't realize is the fact that many times the one executed executed was framed by someone else. the maid executed for prostitution is a rape victim. yes, those who break laws should be punished. however before law takes someones life the crime should be proven beyond any doubts. it is impossible to do so in the current saudi system especially for expats who do not know the language or the people in the right places.
