LAHORE: A civil court has issued notices to the human resource director and director general (administration) of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) for defying a stay order against termination of a deputy manager of the department.

Khalid Mahmood Butt filed a petition seeking contempt of court proceedings against the respondents for not allowing him to resume his job in the light of a stay order passed by the court.

The petitioner stated that the court had maintained status quo regarding the operation of the impugned order of the termination and sought replies from the respondents. However, he said, the respondents did not allow him to resume his work and even restricted his entry to the university premises.

He asked the court to initiate proceedings against the respondents for defying the order.

The court issued notices to HR Director Ms Toima Asghar and Director General (administration) Amir Khan for Oct 28 with directions to appear in person or ensure their representation through counsel.

Cricket ground issue: The Lahore High Court sought arguments on a petition filed by the lessee of land on Thursday challenging the allotment of the same land to another party for a cricket academy on lease.

Faisalabad District Coordination Officer Noorul Ameen Mengal told the court that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the district administration and the cricket academy to set up a cricket ground and a cricket academy in the city. He said the contract of the petitioner expired and now another group occupied the land.

Former cricketer Saeed Ajmal also appeared in the court and said the academy was being established to train young cricketers in Faisalabad.

He asked the court to order the local administration to retrieve the possession of the land from the illegal occupants.

Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi adjourned hearing till November 17 and sought more arguments from the parties.

Qaisar Mushtaq had filed the petition and stated that he had leasing rights of the subject land but it was allocated to cricket academy. He said it was unlawful. The petitioner asked the court to retrieve his land from the control of local administration.
