LAHORE: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Thursday submitted before the Lahore High Court a report showing progress on investigation into the Kasur child abuse case.

During hearing of a number of identical petitions, Deputy Inspector General of Police Malik Abubakar Khudabakhsh, the head of the Joint Investigation Team, appeared before Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik and said challan of the case had been filed before the trial court against 25 accused.

He said 19 accused had been found guilty in the investigation and the police proposed cancellation of the cases against the remaining six.

The chief justice adjourned hearing till Nov 19 and directed the petitioners to file their rejoinders.

Sana Murad and others filed the petitions saying the child abuse scandal caused a wave of fear and insecurity in society.

They said the police were not investigating the case on merit and there was a likelihood that real culprits would be set free. The also requested the court to shift trial of the accused to military court.
