LAHORE: India has announced resumption of Samjhota train service from Thursday after a suspension of about a week. The service between Wagah and Attari usually operates on Mondays and Thursdays.

“Indian rail authorities have confirmed resumption of the service. Samjhota Express will leave Lahore at 8am tomorrow as usual,” said a Pakistan Railways (PR) spokesman on Wednesday.

On Oct 8, passengers of the train had to return to Lahore after Indian authorities refused to allow the train to enter Attari, citing potential security risks because of protests by farmers in Indian Punjab.

A PR official said that Indian authorities had stated that the protesters had lifted the blockade of railway tracks near Amritsar which had kept the service suspended for a week.

Meanwhile, another 19 Pakistanis stranded in India since the suspension of the service arrived in Lahore on Wednesday by the Dosti Bus.
