KASUR: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the Kasur District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital on Tuesday and expressed his displeasure at the condition of hospital.

He made a team to probe into hospital affairs.

During a surprise visit to the hospital on Ferozepur Road, the chief minister inspected its toilets, wards and medical store.

He said he just saw unhygienic conditions, dirty bed sheets and unavailability of potable water and lights in wards.

He said the government was spending billions on the health sector to help the common man. He said the Kasur district coordination officer (DCO), health executive district officer and the DHQ hospital medical superintendent were to dispense health facilities to the people.

He said it was a criminal negligence that the people had been deprived of health facilities. The chief minister ordered the checking of medicines in the hospital.

Mr Sharif arrived in Kasur in public transport without any protocol and remained at the hospital for about two and a half hours. It is learned the Kasur DCO was informed a couple of hours ago about the arrival of the chief minister and he was told to keep it secret from the public and the media.

Reporters and PML-N workers, however, got wind of Mr Sharif’s arrival in the city and soon they gathered at the hospital.

The chief minister expressed his anger over the DCO for leaking the secret. The security personnel did not allow reporters and party workers to enter the hospital.

The chief minister met patients and inquired after their health. After some complaints that they had to buy medicines privately, he ordered the administration to give money to the patients which they had spent on medicines.
