Farmers’ package

Published October 14, 2015

PAKISTAN is an agricultural country having the world’s largest irrigation system. But the agriculture situation is poor owing to severe droughts, floods, rampant industrialisation and urbanisation. We also have grave problems such as water scarcity and food scarcity.

The “farmers’ package” announced by the government recently should not be politicised. If it is implemented in letter and in spirit, it will bring a green revolution once again.

For the long-lasting development of agriculture, it will be wise to build more dams, introduce agriculture as a compulsory subject at schools across the country and broadcast awareness programmes on TV channels regarding agriculture issues.
