KARACHI: A man and his two nephews, all belonging to the Ahmadi community, were wounded in a targeted attack in a Gulshan-i-Iqbal locality, police said on Monday.

Gulshan SP Hasan Sardar Niazi told Dawn that the three persons — Saleem and his two nephews Maaz Ahmed, 20, and Shahmir, 17 — survived the attack that took place on Sunday night.

They were being treated at a private hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger, he added.

About the attack, the SP said that armed motorcyclists intercepted their car in Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block-6, opened fire and rode away.

“It appears to be a targeted attack,” the SP said.

He said investigators collected nine spent bullet casings of a 9mm pistol from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Anjuman Ahmadiyya Pakistan said in a statement that the National Action Plan clearly mentioned action against hate literature and speech, but no action had been taken against the elements allegedly spreading negative propaganda against their community.

The spokesperson said that the wounded were returning home from their religious place when they were attacked.

He said doctors declared the condition of Shahmir critical as he sustained bullet wounds in the abdomen.
