KOHAT: The Kohat police have finalised the security plan and banned display of weapons, provocative speeches, wall-chalking and publication and distribution of hate literature to ensure complete harmony and peace during Muharram.

The district administration has also cancelled leaves of the relevant government officials. DPO Sohaib Ashraf said that he had put the police and security personnel on alert after declaration of Kohat as one of the most sensitive districts by the interior ministry from first of the Muharramul Haram till Youm-e-Ashura.

Heavy contingents of police and Frontier Constabulary would be deployed for the protection of majalis and mourners’ processions. The army would be on call and summoned in case of any untoward incident, he said.

The DPO said that cooperation of the local clerics and elders had also been sought to maintain peace and harmony.

Meanwhile, commissioner Kohat division Musarat Hussain warned administrators of all the three districts of action if delinquency was shown in the anti-encroachment campaign.

Chairing a meeting of the heads of line departments of Kohat, Hangu and Karak districts in his office on Wednesday, he asked them to submit reports about their future strategy and identify the encroached areas to him as soon as possible.

He said that he would monitor the campaign and development work on monthly basis and if anyone was found guilty of sparing the influential land grabbers he would have to face action.

Reviewing different projects, he asked for expediting work on the OTS-Gulshanabad road. He said that consultancy of the uplift and beautification of Kohat project had been completed and practical work on it would be started soon. He said that Rs1 billion had been earmarked for the beautification of Kohat and the gradual release of funds would change the life of the people and face of the district.

The meeting was also attended by deputy commissioner, Kohat, Zahir Shah and relevant officers of the administration and departments of the three districts.

CRUDE OIL SEIZED: Police on Wednesday confiscated 1,700 litres of stolen crude oil from a pick-up van and a godown on Rawalpindi road and arrested an alleged smuggler.

Gumbat police SHO Ghulam Murtaza said that they stopped a pick-up van (Lahore- 9067) on Jabber road and recovered drums full of stolen crude oil. The alleged smuggler, identified as Said Rehman, was also nabbed who disclosed another place where the gang had been dumping oil. The police team raided the said spot in Kamar area and seized several drums of oil. The police have registered cases against the accused.
