UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has requested the Security Council to urgently establish “the contemplated four-Power commission” to carry out the “full implementation” of the Sept 20 resolution of the Council. In a letter to the President of the Security Council, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Mr Amjad Ali, urged that the creation of such a commission was necessary because the UN Observers Mission “is obviously unable to cope with the imminent threat to the peace caused by the deliberate violations of the cease-fire by India”.

Mr Amjad Ali informed the Council President of the continued violations of the cease-fire by India in practically all the sectors. He particularly drew attention of the Council to the fact that India has brought her US-equipped 23rd Infantry Division from NEFA to the Ferozepur front. Pakistan believed, Mr Amjad Ali said, “India is about to embark on major offensive operation which would destroy the Cease-Fire Agreement”.

“If she does this,” Pakistan’s letter to the Security Council President warned, “Pakistan would have no choice but to meet the threat with all the military forces at its command”.

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies from Lahore] the All-Pakistan Federation of Labour has announced that workers will not go on strike during the emergency and will work day and night to keep the supply line intact. The federation has announced that in view of the existing emergency in the country, labour had decided to suspend all their demands whatsoever, and work unconditionally day and night for the defence of the motherland.

It will thus help the Government in keeping the supply line intact in every essential service and boost up the production. The Federation has also declared that no industrial dispute will be raised throughout the country and the whole working class will work unitedly for the defence of the country.
