RAWALPINDI: The wife of an army officer was robbed of gold ornaments and Rs20,000 cash in the Naseerabad locality of the city early on Thursday.

“I along with my two sons, Ali Hasnain, 20, and Bilal Hasnain, 17, had gone to Pakpattan to attend a wedding ceremony as my husband was on duty,” Ms Saddique told Dawn.

While returning home, as she along with his sons reached near their house from the Faizabad bus terminal, four people riding two motorcycles intercepted them.

“The robbers, who were hiding their faces, held my two sons at gunpoint and also threatened to kill me.” Ms Saddique said the robbers snatched six gold bangles and four gold rings and earrings from her. In addition, they also took away a bag and her purse containing Rs20,000 cash.

“While the robbers had taken us hostage, a school van reached the street and its driver stopped the vehicle and started honking, apparently to catch the attention of the people in the neighbourhoods.”

However, none of the residents came out except a rickshaw driver who later claimed that he could identify one of the robbers who was wearing a black T-shirt similar to the police uniform. But later he refused to record his statement with the police, she said.
