NAWABSHAH: Former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmaker Advocate Abdul Majeed, who was arrested on Friday following seizure of a stock of hides, allegedly collected by unauthorised people, from his office, was sent to the Nawabshah district jail on Monday after a judge remanded him in jail custody for 11 days.

Police produced Advocate Majeed, currently serving the party as its zonal in-charge, in the Nawabshah sessions court and sought his remand for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, a joint team of police and Rangers personnel raided a house in the Gharibabad area on Monday and picked up Kashif Khilji, said to be the sector in-charge of the party in Nawabshah. No details of allegations against him could be ascertained.

MIRPURKHAS: Mehran police, along with Rangers personnel, raided an outlet near the Old Khipro bus stand on Sir Syed Road in Mirpurkhas late on Sunday night and arrested three persons after seizing a huge stock of hides from them.

Reports suggested that Waheed Qureshi, a resident of Tando Allahyar, his son, Saeed Qureshi, and employee, Abdul Bari, were arrested and 1,933 hides stocked in the outlet were seized, besides an amount of Rs12,700 they had earned by selling some of the stock.

An FIR against the suspects was registered at the Mehran police station for violating the rules and code of conduct laid down for the collection of hides of sacrificial animals.
