KARACHI: Indus Motor Company (IMC) inducted around 500 new employees during the last eight months owing to rising sales of cars.

The company mainly benefited from strong demand generated by the new 11th generation Toyota Corolla launched in July 2014, and produced 51,398 units. It is currently rolling out 225 Corolla per day as compared to 210 in April this year.

IMC Chief Operating Officer (COO) Ali Asghar Jamali said that increase in production capacity has also reduced the delivery timing of Corolla to 2-2.5 months from 3.5-4 months.

Toyota Corolla Grande is being delivered in three to four weeks followed by 1,300-1,600cc in eight to 10 weeks, he said. On investment plans, he said the company would invest mainly in plant maintenance, improving efficiency and energy saving options, but the amount would not be very significant.

About car prices, Jamali said the company has not jacked up prices for the last 1.5 years despite huge demand. The government, he said, must realise that the import policy is damaging local industry and hampering new investments.
