QUETTA: Two Levies personnel were killed in a suspected targeted killing incident in Balochistan’s Awaran district on Saturday.

Muhammad Jan, a Levies official, told Dawn.com via telephone that unknown assailants opened fire at Levies personnel in Mashkay area of Awaran district, leaving two of them dead.

Both officials died on the spot while the assailants, who were on a motorcycle, managed to flee, he said.

On hearing news of the attack, security personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the dead bodies to a nearby basic health unit.

Muhammad Jan said the incident appears to be an act of targeted killing, however no militant or terrorist group immediately claimed responsibility for the gun attack.

Militants in the area have been targeting security forces and pro-government personalities in the area for more than a decade.

The attack came a day after militants fired rockets at the residence of Balochistan Assembly Speaker Qudoos Bizenjo in the area. However, no loss of life was reported in the attack.
