KARACHI: A book on cancer launched

Published October 18, 2003

KARACHI: Cancer: Tehqeeq ke aenay maen, a valuable book compiled jointly by two practising doctors, was presented by the Medical and Social Welfare Committee at the Pakistan Arts Council on Thursday.

Dr Khalid Imran Mather used the latest information from authentic medical sources in addition to the findings on the internet, and Dr Asif Khani wrote these researches in Urdu in simple language to the benefit of common readers.

Dr Rehana Mohammad Ali Shah spoke at length on the subject emphasising early detection of the disease as cancer travels in the body making the surgeon’s task very difficult.

The book, Dr Shah said, contained all the basic information about cancer which everybody should know — the causes, early symptoms, precautions and treatment.

As all the three major schools of medicines — allopathy, homeopathy and Tibb — claim to help cure cancer, the book carries the opinions of all of them, leaving it for the readers to judge for themselves.

Dr Chin Zeb, a homeopath, speaking at the occasion expressed the hope that finally the cure of cancer was a possibility not far away.

Even more hopeful was Dr Shaikh Mohammad Yusuf, also a member of the Arts Council, who said that research with dynamic speed was being conducted in the medical universities the world over, and positive results would soon emerge. “Since the book was in Urdu, Dr Yusuf said, more and more people would benefit out of it.

The attendance at the ceremony was pathetic, perhaps because another book launching was being held in the city at the same time. Even the gentleman who was to preside over the occasion did not turn up, and the chief guest appeared only to conclude the proceedings.—HA
