VEHARI: Farmers launched the Kissan Raj Tehrik under the banner of the Pakistan Kissan Board (PKB) here on Thursday.

The farmers from all over the district demonstrated and staged a sit-in at V-Chowk and kept the main Burewala Road blocked for about two hours.

The protest was led by PKB’s Punjab Chairman Arslan Khan Khakwani. Protesters shouted slogans against the “indifferent” attitude of the government towards the farmers.

The protesters were addressed by Mr Khakwani, Jamaat-i-Islami local leader Jawed Shah and others.

They said that growers of wheat, cotton, potato and paddy suffered heavy losses because the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation and the provincial food department provided gunny bags to the middleman instead of farmers.

Later, they demonstrated in front of the DCO office. Addressing the protesters, the leaders said that farmers would continue their protest till the acceptance of their demands.
