Three judges take oath

QUETTA: Three additional judges were sworn in as permanent judges of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Wednesday.
BHC Chief Justice Mohammad Noor Meskanzai administrated the oath to Justices Shakeel Ahmed, Mohammad Ejaz Swati and Muhammad Kamran Mulakhail at a ceremony held at the high court. Judges of the high court, lawyers and other officials attended the oath-taking ceremony.
According to a notification issued by the federal government’s Law, Justice and Human Rights Division, the president made the appointments in exercise of powers conferred by Article 193 of the constitution.

I suggest that the appointment of judges should be purely done on merit basis by a panel of judges of the HC and SC. The performance of newly inducted judges may also come under scrutiny by Superior Judiciary for a probationary period not less than 3 years. The judges appointed for the assessment of performance of new judges should be vested with the authority to terminate the services of those who fail to deliver justice. A judge in Swat used to ask Swat Police for blind folding of one of the terror suspect inside the court so that the accused could not see or recognise him.
