KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui on Thursday announced that the Amir Khan Boxing Academy will be established in the city soon.

He made the announcement when two-time former world boxing champion Amir Khan called on him in his office.

The commissioner assured to extend all help and assistance in building the academy and for the promotion of game in the city.

The commissioner added that corporate sector will be asked to contribute their share in establishing the academy on one of the three proposed sites — Lyari, City Sports Complex Kashmir Road or Hawkesbay.

The commissioner informed the British boxer of Pakistani origin that the government was making concerted efforts for the uplift of sports in the city. “Sports is vital for restoring peace in the city,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion the celebrity boxer said that he will send written proposal pertaining to the academy to the commissioner from England.

Amir said he will again visit Pakistan in December to expedite the completion of academy. The commissioner thanked the boxer on behalf of people of Karachi and presented him a shield on the occasion.
