KARACHI: Police on Thursday detained three members of Liaquat National Hospital's (LNH) security staff for their involvement in 'injuring' media persons.

The media persons were present outside the health facility where Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s critically wounded legislator Abdul Rashid Godil is being treated.

“Police have arrested three hospital guards and booked them on complaint of the wounded media persons,” said Abid Qaimkhani, Superintendent of Police (SP).

The officer said that the scuffle broke out between the media persons and the guards when the former tried to enter the hospital premises for coverage after receiving a report that a VIP personality was expected to inquire about the health of the wounded lawmaker.

The hospital’s security staff had stopped the media persons from proceeding further, which resulted in a heated exchange and subsequently led to a scuffle between the two parties.

As a result of the scuffle and injuries suffered by the media persons, a protest was staged outside the hospital against the incident.

After an hours-long sit-in by the media fraternity for “brutal reaction of the private hospital management to stop reporters from their professional job,” the police took action.

The protest was later ended after the police arrested three members of the hospital's security staff over suspicion of their involvement in the incident.
