ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: The standing committee on rules and procedures and privileges on Monday criticized unlimited authority and powers enjoyed by the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and asked power ministry to exercise its power under the rules of business 1973.

The committee also constituted a sub-committee to look into the legal aspect of overstay of Brig Mohammad Zareen, the general manager of Ghazi Barotha Hydro Project, even after the expiry of his deputation tenure.

The committee will comprise ministers for defence, law and water and power while four other members of the committee would be nominated later.

The standing committee meeting presided over by Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak was held here on Monday to consider the privilege motion moved by Malik Amin Aslam against the rude behaviour of GM Ghazi Barotha Hydro Power Project.

The meeting also deliberated upon the opinion of the law ministry according to which the matter of regularizing the intervening period of the tenure of the GM needed to be settled between the ministries of defence and water and power in consultation with the establishment division.
