RAWALPINDI, Dec 24: The supply of water from Rawal Dam filtration plant will remain suspended from January 1 to February 15, 2002 for repairs and extension on the plant, said a statement issued by the Water and Sanitation Agency here on Monday.

The Wasa has urged the consumers to store water for their requirement and use the commodity judiciously.

It said the repair and installation work on the pipeline would be completed in six weeks time. It added that due to repairs and extension on four filter beds, it would not be possible to supply water to the city.

However it said that the supply from the other eight filter beds would be kept up as usual. After the repairs, the capacity of the supply of water from the plant would be increased.

In all the 12 filter beds are supplying 21 million gallon per day to the city.

Until the completion of the repair work, the city and cantonment areas will face a shortage of 7MGD water, the agency said.

The supply to the affected areas, it added, would be made through tankers and tubewells.

The areas which would be affected are Kartarpura, Imampura, Eidgah Mohalla, Akalgarh, Krishanpura, portion of Mohanpura, ‘B’ Block Satellite Town, 7th Road, Malpur, Mohalla Waris Khan, Dhok Ratta (partially), Nanakpura, Naya Mohalla, Dhok Elahi Bakhsh, Dhok Khabba, Qasimabad, Zafarul Haq Road, Raja Bazaar, Dhok Hukamdad, Bagh Sardaran, Ganjmandi, Arya Mohalla, and Bhaabra Bazaar.
