PESHAWAR: The Chitral police have distributed food packages bought from their own money in worst hit areas of the district to help lift suffering of the marooned population.

The food packages included a 10kg flour bag, 5kg sugar, two kilogram each of red lentils and gram, 250 grams tea, 250 grams spices, salt bags, 500 grams of dry milk and mineral water bottles.

District police officer Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat himself supervised the relief distribution to the stranded communities in remote areas of upper Chitral and Kalash valleys.

Police personnel trekked dangerous mountain trails to reach out to the stranded populations while carrying 20kg bagfuls of relief on their backs.

Luke Rehmat, head of local Kalash People Development Network, told Dawn about 100 personnel of Chitral police led by the DPO carried food items to Kalash valley.

He said Chitral police also constructed temporary walking bridges at three places leading to the Bumburate valley. Rehmat said DPO Chitral deserved praise for extending help to the flood victims.

“It was a rare gesture of goodwill by the DPO Chitral who walked a distance of over 20 kilometers to be with flood affected people and share their pain,” he said.— Bureau Report
