KARACHI: Police on Thursday started investigation into the incident of firing on the Mercedes of former captain of Pakistan cricket team, Wasim Akram, by three men travelling in another car a day ago.

Police detectives recorded statements of witnesses, got custody of CCTV footage and sent casings of spent bullets to forensic laboratory, according to officials.

A gunman stated to be aged around 50 years had fired shots at Wasim Akram’s car on main Karsaz road on Wednesday afternoon after a road mishap, which followed exchange of hot words.

The forensic lab revealed about the bullet casings that they were fired from a 0.9 mm pistol which had not been used in any criminal activities in the past, said Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani.

The investigators also recorded statements of some witnesses who provided ‘useful’ information that might help them identify the three culprits involved in the ‘scary’ incident on one of the busiest roads. With help of a witness they were trying to prepare sketches of the three culprits, said the officer.
