KARACHI, Oct 12 : Around 20,000 citizens residing near Lyari’s D.D. Chaudhry Road, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road, Yousuf Haroon (West) Roads No. 1 and 2 and in the vicinity of Lea Market Telephone Exchange, have been receiving contaminated water since long.

The hard-hit localities and apartment buildings include Bismillah Colony, Bhutto House, Baitul Hashim, Zeeshan Arcade, Haji Saleh building, Yaqoob Sunara building, Irshad Manzil, Naz Chambers, Haji Gul Hasan house and those residing along D.D. Chaudhry Road and adjacent to the Lyari telephone exchange.

In a complaint lodged with City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, the residents of the affected localities stated that on the one hand, their localities either remain dry for weekly holiday or get contaminated water. On the other hand, they added, considerable quantity of potable water was being leaked daily from a number of pipelines.

In support of their contention that they were being supplied contaminated water, they claimed that Sindh’s quality control department and the director environment and alternate energy had already declared the water, they were being supplied, adulterated, unhygienic and unfit for human consumption.

They mentioned that a huge quantity of potable water was being wasted from a pipeline of Moosa Lane pumping station.
