MARDAN: Girls outshined boys by grabbing top three positions in higher secondary school certificate examination results, 2015, announced by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Mardan, here on Saturday.

Anmol Ali of the Peace School and College, Nowshera Cantonment, clinched the top position by obtaining 998 out of 1,100 marks. Kiran Gohar of Quaid-i-Azam Girls College, Swabi, stood second with 984 marks and Javaria Nasir of Tufail Shaheed Army College, Mardan, got third position with 982 marks. All the top three position holders belonged to the pre-medical group.

In pre-engineering group, Uzair Aman Khan of Karnal Sher Khan Cadet College, Swabi, stood first with 969 marks, Mohammad Faiq and Nasrullah of the same college stood second with 955 marks each and the third position holder with 954 marks belonged to Fazal-i-Haq College, Mardan.

In general science group, Gul Wareena with 909 marks got first position and Afsheen Ali with 878 marks clinched second position. Both of them are the students of Working Folks Grammar Higher Secondary School, Ziarat Kaka Sahib Nowshera. Arslan Ahmad of Nisar Shaheed Intermediate College, Risalpur Nowshera, got third position with 844 marks.

Similarly, in humanities group, Noor-un-Nisa Syed of Nisar Shaheed Intermediate College, Risalpur, stood first with 917 marks, Sana Bashir of Government Girls Degree College, Pabbi Nowshera, stood second with 868 marks and Raz Mohammad, a private student of Mardan with 863 marks obtained third position.

According to BISE Mardan spokesman, a total 30,833 students appeared in the Part-I examinations, of which 18,463 students were declared successful with pass percentage stood at 59.88 per cent.

Similarly, 31,457 students appeared in Part-II examinations, of which 20,711 were declared successful and pass percentage remained 65.84 per cent.

After the results, provincial minister for higher secondary and elementary education Atif Khan attended a function at the BISE, Mardan to award prizes to the top 20 position holders.

The minister said the PTI-led provincial government had provided Rs500 million to the education department to boost the education sector.

He said the provincial government planned to set aside Rs1.5 billion fund for the education sector, under which teachers would be trained by foreign educational experts.

Atif Khan said construction of playgrounds at educational institutions would provide recreational facilities for students.

The education minister gave away cash prizes and certificates to the position holder students.
