Khuhro’s call to build Bhasha dam

HYDERABAD: Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Irrigation Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that the PPP had objections to the water resolution of 1991 in the past and the party objects it even today, according to a handout on Sunday.

He said that under the international rules, waters should flow into Kotri downstream and it was never opposed while dictators raised the issue of Kalabagh dam and made provinces had harsh feelings against each other.

He said this time work on Bhasha dam should be started as no province had objection to it.

He was addressing a news conference at Kotri barrage office on Saturday evening after visiting dykes of the barrage.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan or someone else could not be allowed to build Kalabagh dam.

What is the logic of opposing KBD? Is it economically unfeasible, technically flawed? Which one will cost more, KBD or Bhasha Dam? Which one will take lesser time to complete? Sind has water shortage and then it is flooded and excessive gushing water is rushing to sea? Despite electricity and water crisis if our so called leaders are adament and oppose, just for the sake of opposition, construction of KBD; then they are not doing any service to the people of this country. The leaders have only drowned this country, let the matter be handled by technocrates and engineers and our leaders should listen and support them in the interrest of country.

Fifty years too late. Better not to have attacked East Pakistan. Now the problem the PPP is having is whose land will be flooded when the Dam has been constructed. They must protect the interests of their friends !

Shameless politicians opposing kalabagh dam when water becomes increasingly scarce, and salination of Sindhi agricultural land due to an irregular river flow allowing sea water to invade into the land is leading to food insecurity.

Bhasha Dam has been approved and inaugurated by PM Gillani but nothing is happening. Instead of controversial projects this is an approved project and must be completed ASAP. We need several dams not just one controversial.

People that is common man must not be allowed to suffer by politicians selfish ego bickering. Kalabagh dam whose feasibility report is already there should be built no matter what and the sooner the better. Kalabagh dam can no longer be held hostage to selfish politicians loud mouthed talks.
