RAWALPNDI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) launched an investigation into the Wednesday night cracker attack outside Jinnah Public Park after registering a case under the anti-terrorism and explosive act.

Preliminary investigation showed that 300 to 400 grams of explosive was used in the blast that left a three-inch-deep crater outside the main gate of the park.

The cracker was hurled on the public park’s main gate by some unidentified people riding a white car that sped off towards Jhelum Road.

However, no visitor or security guard was present at the gate at the time.

Jinnah Public Park is located close to the Police Lines Headquarters and the CTD police station.

Shortly after the incident, the bomb disposal experts and senior officials of the CTD visited the spot and collected evidence.

“We are trying to determine the motive behind the attack,” a senior official said, adding apparently the motive was to terrorise people or creating panic.

After the attack, the security at the exit points of the city was alerted, however, the police could not trace the car.
