LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) retired Capt Muhammad Amin Wains has said police will have to treat people with respect if they want themselves to be respected and behave politely with complainants coming to police stations for solution to their problems.

According to a handout, the CCPO said beat officers will work as ‘mini station house officers (SHOs)’ and be answerable for crimes committed in their beats. He said motorcycles had been provided to beat officers and those who had not received them yet will within a couple of days.

He expressed these views while addressing at the training session of beat officers at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Wednesday.

Divisional superintendents of police, including Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Rana Ayyaz Saleem, gave briefing to the officers about beat system.

The CCPO said beat officers and constables should participate in every event in their beats that would not only strengthen their liaison with residents, but also give insight into difficulties and problems. He also said beat officers would have to immediately appoint a coordinator with a good repute for every 50 houses and 50 shops.

He added that the aim of the beat system was to provide justice to people at their doorstep and promote a sense of protection among them.
