RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Narcotics Force recovered 2.8 tons of narcotics worth Rs3.93 billion in 10 crackdowns carried out in various parts of the country and arrested 12 suspects, among them two foreigners. Five vehicles were also seized, said an ANF press release.

The operations carried out in Taxila, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Peshawar, Karachi and Pishin resulted in the recovery of 2.6 tons of opium, 175kg Charas, 5.7kg heroin and 500 gram methamphetamine (ice). The major chunk of drugs was destined for overseas markets.

ANF personnel recovered 2,674kg opium from a deserted mountainous area of Killi Maizai in Saranan tehsil of Balochistan’s Pishin district. The drug was packed in plastic bags.

Three kilograms of heroin and 500gm methamphetamine were recovered from the possession of two van passengers on GT Road near Attock. They were identified as Nazeefullah of Charsadda and Muhammad Sadiq of Peshawar. The drug was intended to be supplied to a mule in Rawalpindi.

ANF staffers intercepted a vehicle near Mullah Mansoor Toll Plaza on GT Road in Attock and found 2kg heroin in its secret cavities. Suspected drug pedlar Muhammad Aayaz of Khyber Agency was arrested.

One Khan Zeb, a resident of Peshawar, was stopped while riding a motorcycle near Nazim CNG Station on GT Road in Taxila. Upon search, he was found carrying 1kg Charas.

The ANF Lahore with the assistance of their Sialkot team nabbed one Ajab Ali of Hasanabdal and seized 1.2kg Charas on him.

The suspect was currently living in Sheikhupura and had reportedly smuggled the drug from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sher Alam, who belongs to Charsadda, was arrested at the Peshawar Airport when he was to board a flight for Taif.

The ANF seized 2.2kg Charas on Imran Afridi, who was going on a motorcycle, near Hyper Mall at Ring Road in Peshawar.

A routine checking at the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, resulted in the arrest of a Nepalese couple – Sajan Waiba Tamang and Ms Manu Tamangni. Both confessed to swallowing heroin-filled capsules. They were travelling to Delhi.

A search of a bus near Hub checkpost in Karachi produced 137kg Charas, concealed in the spare wheel and cavities of the bus. Suspects Yar Muhammad and Sabir Baloch were arrested.

Cases were registered against all suspects and investigation had been started.
