QUETTA: Five pilgrims belonging to the Zikri community, out on a foot journey to Turbat died of thirst and scorching heat in Balochistan's Kech district Tuesday, Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hameed Abro said.

The Zikri pilgrims had begun their journey from Ghundi Kapper in Pasni to Koh-i-Imam, Turbat on Sunday.

Talking to Dawn.com, Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hameed Abro said three dead bodies were found Tuesday morning and two others were discovered in the afternoon.

Two of the pilgrims have been identified as Muhammad Ibrahim and Abdul Hameed.

“All the deceased were residents of Gwadar,” the deputy commissioner said.

Levies personnel shifted the dead bodies to a nearby hospital. Abro said a total of six pilgrims had started out on foot, of which one had opted out and the remaining five died of heat and thirst.

“The dead bodies were recovered from a deserted area in Kech,” Abro said, adding that “there was no population close to the dead bodies.”
