LAHORE: A thundershower late on Monday night brought relief to the Lahorites who braved unannounced power loadshedding and breakdowns for the last one week.

The meteorological department has forecast widespread rain as well scattered heavy falls in Lahore during the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum 25 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office says monsoon currents penetrating the central and upper parts of the country are expected to strengthen from Monday night and are likely to continue during the next few days.

It says widespread rain and thundershowers are also expected in Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Hazara divisions besides Islamabad and Kashmir. It has predicted scattered heavy rainfall in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhpura, Kasur and Okara districts.

Heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot districts, the Met Office says.
