QUETTA: Security forces on Monday foiled multiple terror bids and seized a large quantity of weapons and explosives from Balochistan's Sherani and Killa Abdullah districts.

Security sources told Dawn.com that an intelligence-based raid was conducted in district Sherani's Kapip area, which resulted in the arrest of a suspected militant.

Security forces said they recovered 40 rockets, 10 rifles, seven hand grenades and other arms and ammunition from the arrested suspect. The weapons were being brought to Balochstan from the country's volatile tribal belt, when the raid was conducted by security agencies.

The suspected militant was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Security forces and Frontier Corps (FC) also foiled a terror bid close to the Pak-Afghan border, in the Chaman area.

FC Spokesperson Khan Wasey said security forces spotted a suspicious motorcycle following which the bomb disposal squad was called in. On inspection, a five kilogramme Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found attached to the motorcycle.

Three suspects were detained by security forces from the spot.

In other raids, security forces arrested eight suspected militants in the Mastung and Dera Bugti districts of Balochistan.

Those taken into custody were involved in subversive activities and weapons were also recovered from their possession, said Wasey.

Security forces have intensified their actions in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan after the announcement of the National Action Plan to combat terrorism in the country.
